Introducing Filters

So you’ve set up GSAK, you’ve created pocket queries and now loaded them into the programme. You have a big ol’ database of caches and are wondering to yourself “why do we use GSAK again?” Well today we take a first initial look at filters.

SMStext’s 3000th Find

Caching colleague Asfastasfcuk started this ridiculous thing whereby milestone caches have to be 5/5s (i.e. 5 difficulty, 5 terrain). Personally I think doing special caches for milestones just slows you down, but seeing as I had to climb that telegraph pole for my 6000th, I didn’t see why SMStext should get off that easy.

The Hundred Club

You may hear some top cachers referring to being in ‘the hundred club’. This is a non-physical accolade for any cacher who manages to find 100 or more caches in a single day. Doesn’t matter if you do this solo or as part of a group (although if your team splits up this is generally frowned upon). Personally I think this is now easier than it once was but that might just me being old and grumpy and saying “in my day…”. Some people will moan it’s elitism and say that “it’s not about the numbers” but the point about the hundred club is that it’s a mental as well as a physical challenge and anyone who completes the challenge is automatically “in”.

The Cunning Cachers March Meet

I’m going to make a concerted effort this morning to bring the blog up to date with all my recent caching outings as I’ve been in a post milestone caching frenzy (I’m on around 300 caches for the month already despite the added complication of whiplash). But let’s kick off with talking about The Cunning Cachers March Meet all the way back on the 8th March.

UK Mega 2012 Location Announced

I’d heard a bit about the London bid (mainly due to my location) but to be honest didn’t know that there were other bids and that there was some form of selection process. But apparently there is and the 2012 UK Mega has been voted and decided upon…

Top 50! And More!

Yes, as you may have noticed from my states to the left, I’ve now made it into the Top 50 cachers in the UK. Whilst I treat the rankings as a bit of fun rather than something serious, this is something I’ve been working slowly towards for a few months now.

In another bit of good news, I also found out today that purely based on number of finds so far this year, I’m 17th in the country’s top cachers. Yes, I know it’s not all about the numbers, but as an incentive to get out and keep walking, it’s a brilliant motivator.

The ET Highway Series

The Las Vegas Review Journal has done what I think is a very nice article all about the archiving of the ET Highway series and the resulting financial impact on local businesses.

Eine Kleine Nachtfrolik

I’m so behind on updating on all my Geocaching adventures. It’s been a very busy week this past week and there’s lots to talk about and I want to kick off talking about a Night Cache I did last week: GC1Q4FG – Eine Kleine Nachtfrolik

This is a multiple stage Night Cache, with a number of different elements in the stages to warrent it being listed as a puzzle cache. I’ve done a couple of night caches before, and they are a lot of fun.

POP Cache

You may come across the term POP cache when perusing cache logs and wonder what the term means. The acronym actually stands for “Piece of Piss” and relates to the cache being an easy find. (i.e. “Saw this one before I even reached the GZ. A POP cache!”). Some American cachers, in an aim to keep the term family-friendly refer to it as standing for “Piece of Pie”. Either way, it means the same thing!
